About
A monthly magazine for our local community
Box River News is a monthly community magazine serving the villages of the Box River Benefice in south Suffolk. Set in a particularly beautiful and historically rich part of the county, the magazine reflects the life of our villages and the surrounding area.
The magazine exists to share local news and information, but also to celebrate what makes this part of Suffolk such a good place to live. Each issue highlights village life as it is lived day to day – from events and organisations to people, places and stories that might otherwise go unrecorded.
A little history
Box River News was first published in 2000 and was edited and produced by Eddie Kench from the very beginning until his death in 2021. Over more than two decades, the magazine became a familiar and trusted part of village life.
The magazine is now edited by Trudi Wild, continuing its long-established role as a monthly record of the communities it serves.
Celebrating place & preserving history
Alongside current news, Box River News has always carried a strong sense of local history. Articles, recollections, photographs and reports from past events have, over time, built up a substantial archive.
Taken together, past and present issues form a detailed record of village life in this part of Suffolk. The archive is regularly used by readers researching local people, buildings, events and organisations, and provides an ongoing record for future generations.
Print distribution & subscriptions
Each month (excluding January when no issue is produced) around 3,000 copies are printed and circulated:
- Around 1,900 copies are delivered for free, door-to-door to households within the Benefice villages of Boxford, Groton, Newton Green, Edwardstone, Whitestreet Green, Little Waldingfield, Bower House Tye and Milden.
- A further 1,100 copies are available from collection points across the wider South Suffolk area, including Hadleigh, Sudbury and neighbouring villages.
- Copies are also distributed to Boxford School for pupils who live outside the immediate benefice area.
For readers who are unable to collect a free copy, Box River News now offers a postal subscription service, with issues sent directly to subscribers each month.
Back issues & online access
Each issue is also published online and shared via social media. Where available, printed back issues can be purchased, and a growing digital archive is maintained for reference and research.
Submissions and deadlines
Editorial contributions and advertising are welcomed. The copy deadline is the 15th of each month for inclusion in the next issue.
Box River News is independently edited and produced, allowing it to remain closely connected to the communities it serves. It has no particular political stance or persuasion.
